People are finally starting to talk more about purity protocol gluten free oats, and I’m so excited!
“Jessica, what is the purity protocol?” – Oats that are grown in a dedicated gluten free field, then harvested/packaged in a gluten free facility.
“Are all gluten free oats purity protocol?” – Nope, most GF oats are regular oats that are mechanically/optically sorted to remove the gluten-containing grains (that’s what Cheerios does).
“But certified gluten free oats are purity protocol oats, right?” – NOPE! At least not necessarily. Certified is not synonymous with purity protocol. Many certified GF products use GF oats that are mechanically/optically sorted.
“How can I find out which oats are purity protocol and which aren’t?” Gluten Free Watchdog has a great page about it.

I love, love, love Gluten Free Prairie. The taste, quality, safety, the awesome owner – Gluten Free Prairie is the way to go if you’re an oat lover. The brownie mix is amazing! I especially love using the all purpose flour and pancake/waffle mix to make crepes. I recently attempted to make pancakes using the suggested recipe on the back of the pancake/waffle mix. My current nonstick pan is slightly warped (aka it’s no longer perfectly flat), so the pancake batter spread out a bit too much (yay more crepes!). Easy fix if you’ve got a similar uneven pan – decrease the amount of milk and add 1/4 tsp xanthan gum. Perfect pancakes! Also, as an oatmeal lover in my pre-celiac days, I am so happy to now have a gluten free oatmeal that I can finally trust.
